WHAT IS TEAR TROUGH TREATMENT?

Tear Trough Treatment is the name given to the procedure where dermal fillers are used to temporarily correct hollowness in the undereye area.

The 'tear trough' is the area between your cheek and lower eyelid, which naturally dips down. As we age, we can lose volume in this area leading to hollowness and 'dark circles', which can make us look tired. Some people naturally have a deep tear trough and this is treated in the same way even though it isn't caused by ageing.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

Treatment results normally last around 12 months but this can vary between individuals.

WHAT DOES THE PROCEDURE INVOLVE?

Before treatment you will have a consultation with one of our Aesthetic Nurses to ensure that you are suitable for treatment and to discuss the options available to you.

The most effective way to correct a deep tear trough is to use a specialist dermal filler to restore volume and thereby reduce dark circles and hollowness.

A fine cannula is passed into the hollow area and a small amount of light dermal filler is used to fill the hollow space. The procedure only takes around 20 minutes to perform.

You will see a result instantly although it may take a few days for any mild swelling/bruising to settle down.

ALTERNATIVE TREATMENT

Some people are not suitable for tear trough treatment. This may be because there is not enough hollowness, there is puffiness under the eyes or the skin is too thin - in all of these situations tear trough filler may worsen the appearance of the undereye area.

For people who are not suitable for tear trough treatment there are a number of different option including Polynucleotide Treatment, Radiofrequency Skin Tightening, Radiofrequency Microneedling or Plasma Mesotherapy. We recommend that you book in for a consultation to discuss the option and our team will recommend the best option for you.
